It's Not A Fashion Statement...

Hello Blog.
I was taking a short break from reading my new Systems of Knowledge book when something popped into my head. Today was my second school day as a Second Year student (woohoo) and don't get me wrong, things are going well (apart from the paranoia and STUDY STUDY STUDY attitude I seem to have adopted rather prematurely). It may be that I'm cynical or just plain weird, but is it completely necessary to obsess over one's appearance so much just for school? I know everyone is gleeful and "free" because we have been freed from the binding chains of the cursed school uniform, but some people (not to sound sexist, but especially girls) seem to over-do things...
For example, why on EARTH would you come to school (which has 4 floors) with heels (I'm not talking those cute little wedges either) ? High heels, hair straightened everyday to the point of spontaneous combustion, and a face so covered in make up that you're not sure if that's a face or a mask. Another thing; the school bag. Practical. Comfortable. These days there are a variety of brands, colours, shapes, styles, prices, materials, etc,etc to suit every individual. Most of them are now "ergonomic" and "save your back" (particularly useful if you're click clacking up 4 flights of stairs in your terribly "comfortable" heels...)... so why...in the name of all that is pink and fluffy...would you buy a handbag which is larger than yourself, just because its more "fashionable"? To be completely honest, a giant less-than-fake leather handbag stuffed to the brim with books (& make up) is really not visually appealing... it just looks like the garbage bag filled up :] ...plus it really isn't good for your spine. Then again, neither is wearing heels day in and day out just for fashion's sake. Of course, everyone is always looking at your feet so we simply must wear heels to school.

Ah well; it really isn't my business whether or not these people choose to be practical or not, but personally, a nice backpack and converse are enough for me. Too many people act like its more important to look nice at school & wear heels & straighten their hair & cake their face in make up & break their backs all for the sake of what's "fashionable". I must have missed the memo that said " 30 years from now, osteoporosis & severe back pain will be fashionable".

I'd rather be a nerd and pass tests than "look nice" and scrape through school.

Well, that was my complaint about both 2nd year and now a bunch of fresh meat (1st year) students...if you agree...I'm glad...if you don't...you probably wear heels to school :]

Kelly Dent : Promoted To 2nd Year...and more Skate Shoes

Hello my dear sweet neglected blog :]
First of all, I neglected to write in here for a while because after 2 months of constant study, I needed to go out. So I went out - a lot. Last night was dinner at my boyfriend's house, the night before that dinner at The Avenue with the boyfriend's work colleagues, before that was a night of clubbing in Paceville, and days before that were spent either in a farmhouse in Gozo or lazing about playing ps2 games and reading :]

Oh and I received my resit results - 55% :] 2ND YEAR HERE I COME! Soon it'll be the smell of new text books, the quiet whisper of pages turning and the smooth scratch of a ball point pen gliding along A4 sheets :') Ooooh and the stationary! I'm dying for my smartcard to be replenished such that I may venture out to all stationer's and purchase things that I probably don't need ... ie. more biros, paper, note books, maybe a me to you soft toy, etc... it's the government's money, who cares? :]

I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice...does anyone else think that Mr.Darcy should just hurry up and tell Elizabeth how he feels?! It's so obvious...and Mr. Collins as well as Lady Catherine de Bourgh are quite possibly the most obnoxious, nosy fictional characters I have ever come across O_o Lady Catherine is such a total control freak, and wants to know everybody's business, and she thinks it's her right because she's a rich old trout. And I'm so sick of her "Anne would have been an excellent piano player if her health had allowed"... WELL HER HEALTH DIDN'T ALLOW SO YOU DON'T BLOOMIN' KNOW DO YOU?! Geezus...Should I be scared that I'm getting so angry at fictional characters ? XD

I need to start revising before school ... Private lessons commence (again) next week, I think... *sigh* but I love school; provided I'm doing well XD

I'm off to make some tea and read...not at the same time

Regards & Mushrooms (yes this is for you vic)

Ps. When I was in Gozo... I BOUGHT MORE SKATE SHOES =D black and blue <3

I shop, therefore I am.

Hello, free world!
This post is just a little update, so it won't be very long.
The maths resit went well, & I can't wait to start school again ^.^
I have a major urge to shop... Uh-Oh
I bought a new mp4 <3 its beautiful :] and will keep me company on my walk to and from school.
That's about it...
Oh and I'm trying to learn guitar again :]

What is the Square root of Pi? Mmm Pie...

Hello Blog.

My maths exam is on the 2nd of September, meaning I have little more than two weeks of study left. For weeks and weeks I have been studying day in and day out, wracking my brains and trying to memorise as many formulae as possible - hopefully all my hard work will pay off.

Last week I attempted two Pure maths past papers. Fun? No. Improvement? Yes.

My exam mark was a pitiful 22 out of 70 (I think.) In one of the papers, I successfully obtained at 41.5 out of 70, and then I addedthe assesment marks so all in all I got around 51.5 :] I need a total of 45% to pass.

Today I tried a more difficult paper, and got a 36. 36+10 = 46 = JUST passed.

I realised that my problems lie with the following topics : Integration, Arithmatic progressions, and functions. If I could just get those 3 topics down, that exam would be in the bag.

Uuuuugh my next maths lesson is on the 21st, and I really really need it. I have questions.

COME BACK MISS MATHS TEACHER :O

Jeez..If I don't pass this, I may die. Or fling myself off a cliff and be critically injured.

Today I was reading Pride and Prejudice, & I came across an interesting idea. One of the characters in the book is said to keep "excerpts" or something; apparently this means that she reads books and keeps the sentances or paragraphs which interest her most in a little notepad. It's a cute idea - and I think I'll try it. Might help me retain some of my sanity, plus I could even upload my favourite onto here to share them with you. ("You" being whoever follows/reads this incredibly random blog which is mainly regarding books. It should get better in winter when school starts *sigh* )

Well.. this blog basically was to express my feelings about maths and..Pride and Prejudice (?).

I hope to go on a shopping trip later on this week with my best friend - Katy... while we're out I need to pick up some informational books..anything really I just want something factual like...history or...science...anything.

Did I tell you that I'm practicing my writing?

Yes I am. I even bought a book entitled "Improving your writing skills"... I really want to become a half decent writer bah!

Speaking of books

I had the weirdest dream last night. It was basically the beginning of Bronte's "Wurthering Heights" novel, complete with Cathy and Heathcliff. Why? I don't know why. Probably because my cousin's (totally sweet & has good taste in books) girlfriend mentioned it to me on Facebook, & I had seen the film last winter. At least I have immaginative dreams, people!

Anywho, I'm off because I have work tomorrow at 8:30am, and my huge urge to go shopping will not be fulfilled tomorrow :( *sob*

Goodnight

With extremely bored & immaginative regards

Because I've got you to look after me, and you've got me to look after you

It's hot. Unbearably hot. The kind of hot that makes people lazy and tends to induce a headache & make you feel like you've just woken up. I totally agree with Vic [[Paranoid Android]] - I want Winter! There is nothing better than curling up on the sofa with a fluffy bathrobe (mine is pink), PJ's, a book/DVD and a cup of steaming hot chocolate (or Coffee). I also miss certain items of clothing from my winter wardrobe, not to mention the fact that it's tough going out during the day due to extreme heat. I miss my vast collection of fluffy, hand-made scarves [yes, I know how to knit. And Crochet. And Cross Stitch. And Tapestry. Yay Mummy]. I'm longing for the time I can wear my hoodies *sigh*, shop for awesome skinny jeans (and wear them) and also get lost in the squishy-softness of my 2 favourite winter jackets...ahh..I miss it quite terribly.

Well I'm writing this blog to mark that on the 11th of August, my boyfriend took me out to eat for our 6month-a-versary. It was nice; a thoughtful thing to do. After dinner we walked along the seafront and he presented me with quite possibly the most adoreable "me to you" soft toy ever - a bunny named blossom. Shes lovely. Attatched to said bunny was a note in the shape of a heart (cute) and a book *squeal of delight*. The way to a woman's heart is through her... book obsession? He gave me The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho (I love Paulo); adding to my modestly-sized book collection (photos will be added at the end). Concluding the 6 month-a-versary paragraph; it was a wonderful evening, & I have an uber-sweet boyfriend who is not ashamed of visiting every Agenda bookshop in Malta in order to buy me the book. Oh how I love him :]

Well, regarding my increasingly passionate love affair with books - my book collection continues to grow. I finished reading Chosen from the HoN series in one day, started Untamed the next day and now even THAT book is finished. I bought the 6th book in the series, "Hunted", and I could probably finish it by today IF I didn't have maths work to do. I'm interested in buying some books by Charles Darwin, just out of curiosity. I checked out Agenda & I found the Origin of Species & a biography. Don't want the Biography. Hmm, what else...
I have no idea what books I'm going to read after Hunted. I could start "The Winner Stands Alone" by Paulo Coelho, or "Pride and Prejudice" / "Persuasion" by Jane Austen... well I DO have a personal library of books to choose from, so I will not be short of reading material. If all else fails, those Maths books look pretty appealing. NOT. Soooo Not.

I sincerely hope my best friend's dog gets well soon :\ I do love that puppy (I say puppy because Pedro forgets that he's huge and can squish us all while trying to be all cute and puppy like <3>

I really, really, really can't stand some old people. Honestly. I was waiting for my dad to pick me up for maths lessons, when this aged person proceeded to cross the road. He caught sight of me (dressed very averagely in average jeans in an average purple top - Mathematics is not a fashion contest), and he stopped smack-dab in the middle of a road to wink at me. Ew. Just, Ew. I gave him this very "Oh my goodness you are so disgusting and gross and if you keep looking at me I'm gonna slap you into another nationality" look, and he hobbled along like the frail old git that he is. Eugh. Why is there such a total lack of respect towards women? What gives you (man) the right to whistle, wink, stare or hit on me? while I'm minding my own business dressed in very normal, non-sexy clothes. It sickens me.

Well, I'm off because the call of Mathematics is strong and clear.

Signing out with pics of my books below because i love them

Hot Chocolate-y regards

The Wonders of Mathematics

I'm proud to announce that today I attended my very first Mathematics PrivateLesson of this Summer. Considering my lack of mathematical skill, I think I did pretty well. I completed some questions which I left out in the exam, all while thinking.."Why couldn't I do this at the time?"
Honestly there *must* be some kind of allergic reaction my brain experiences when I enter the classroom. How is it I work in almost perfect harmony with Maths at my Teacher's house or in my room, yet the moment I set foot in a classroom things turn into a horrible mess?

I better pass this god-forsaken maths exam. All I want is my course in Computers..Geez... the things one must do to be a computer nerd these days -_-'

OOOOH By the way - I bought new shoes :D I shall inset pics in this blog.blog. BLOGGGG.

Aaaanyway
Little update about the books - I recently began reading "The Devil & Miss Prym" by Paulo Coelho and I'm happy to say I'm enjoying every page of it. I also bought the 2nd book from PC & Kirstin Cast's "House of Night" series (however I have already forgotten the title after hours of maths work.Ho Hum.)

By the way

I loved the "Marked" book even though I had some misgivings about it initially. The story develops nicely towards the middle of the book :] & it made me want to read more ..and more...and the next book so ...here we go.

If a Man's wit be wandering, Let him study Mathematics.

I can honestly say... I've never seen any man NOTICE his wit was wandering, let alone take the
initiative to study maths for "no apparent reason". But here it
is, the rest of my summer days shall be filled with work, private lessons, maths, maths, maths, books, sleep, maths, and I might get a chance to socialise at *some* point. Oh, one more thing: I
HAVE FOLLOWERS
:D okay so i have 3 and one of them is me, but i have TWO people who follow this blog now...I'm overjoyed & would like to thank them XD *sends cake and hot chocolate*

Lots of Mathematical Regards & jargon

Do I even really need this?

Okie Dokie everyone got their end of year results today.

We-Do-Not-Need-This-Subject-for-this-course O_O
I have a maths resit D: Well thats not too bad since everything else went well ^^ But Maths D: boooo
I hate it
I hate Trig
I hate Co-Ord Geometry
I hate Everything Boo.
I also hate the losers who decided that to have a course @ Uni in ICT that you only need IT intermediate and bleedin' Pure Maths A lvl. FAIL. It makes. No sense.

"Miss Dent could you please fix my network between these 3 computers?"

"Mela. First I'll have to draw this line according to Co ordinate Geometry, then take the points on the line and make Pythagoras' Triangle. Then I need to use Differentiation and the CAST rule. Then I'll see if I can do the network."

"why?"

"Because I have Maths A lvl, Not IT so...we'll see how it goes."

"Oh."

Maaaa
Now... xi dwejjaq O_o

It's Over

Yeah so...this morning at around 1am I actually finished reading Breaking Dawn and so... the Twilight Saga is -Over-. It was a loving, warm, long relationship, but it has come to an end. Small note:

I love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love Twilight <3

Okay.

So I'm trying another (modern??) author and I'm reading Marked - A house of Night novel . Its weirdly different from Twilight...It's got vampires but..they're not all secret and obscure like in Twilight...ie. no Volturi ergo no hiding from humans.Yeah. Vampire Boarding School...I'll see how this plays out. I'm not too sure about the level of English in the book; there's a huge difference between this book and for example Paulo Coelho's works... very American-teenager- talk O_o I don't know...only reading it because it's about vampires. Plus I think I found a spelling mistake in the first or second chapter O_O "east" instead of "easy" ... Iiii don't know it just didn't make sense XP *sigh* I kind of miss the Twilight series already... but considering the previous list of books left to read...yeah I'd better be moving on with life.

Aside from the whole books thing (which, sadly has been the only thing besides comics & DVDs to entertain me since I don't feel like clubbing and the boyfriend is in Rotterdam) I have taken to doing the insane ---- STUDYING Pure Maths in my spare time. It's just such a sad thing to do...but it shows the level of boredom I have reached this past week. The brightside? I re-learnt Pascal's Triangle and Logs etc...I just thought someone would need this information when they check me in to some kind of nice insane asylum after studying maths in the SUMMER O_O

Aaaaaanyway... I'm off to play some kind of PC game and read that book..shall blog if bored later....

Kelly xo

Sometimes I think I have a Problem.

Honestly, though. I have some strange book-loving obsessions that I can't let go of; plus I keep buying more and more books in order to feed my strong addiction. It SO doesn't help when we have an Agenda Bookshop right by the entrance at school, and a stipend. Do you KNOW how many books I have? I don't know if this is normal or not, but here's a list of all the books I've got, the ones I've read have a * to mark it.

  • Sovay*
  • Dracula
  • Veronika Decides to Die*
  • Twilight*
  • New Moon*
  • Eclipse*
  • Breaking Dawn*
  • All the Harry Potter books*
  • The Handmaid's Tale*
  • The Time Machine*
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray
  • Persuasion
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • The Devil and Miss Prym
  • Marked - House of Night Series
  • Of Mice and Men*
  • Some book with facts about Opus Dei
  • Frankenstein
  • Sexing the Cherry (??) got this free
  • Angelo's Eyes
  • Ramon u Z-Zerbinotti
  • The Last Don

As you can see, I have some catching up to do. My mother has officially banned me from buying any more books until i clear a few more :O But I'll get around that.

By the way - books are way more worth it money-wise if you buy them online. The prices are so much better... I bought Breaking Dawn from Agenda for around 17 euro , paperback; on Amazon.com you can have a Hardback for $16... so around 11 euro. Marked from the house of night series by PC and Kirstin Cast was around 10 euro, but on amazon i found one for 5 euro. Come on. Needless to say I was a little ticked off at how they mark up prices here. Ugh. That reminds me of what happened when I want to buy Breaking Dawn hardback:

*Kelly walks into shop*

Kelly: Excuse me, do you have Breaking Dawn but a hardback version?

Salesperson: No ta', for that you have to place an order.

Kelly: Ok Thank you. *inside my head* ARE YOU SERIOUS?! WHY? ITS A SIMPLE REQUEST!! ALL THESE BOOKS AND NOT ONE HARDBACK OF THIS?! ORDER? WHAT? I FINISH ECLIPSE TODAY!! I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! *breaks down in flood of tears*

Well... I bought the paperback. It matches all the other paper back books from the Twilight Saga. So I was even more p.o'd when I found a hardback set for €50. Ugh.

Aaaaanywhooo...Next thing I intend to buy (ONLINE) is "Prom Nights From Hell" which has stories from a few different authors, including Stephenie Meyer. Then I need to look into this set of books I heard of called " The Vampire Diaries." No idea who wrote that. Oh yeah, here are books I *want* to buy(online)

  • Life Of Pi
  • The Godfather
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • The Invisible Man
  • The War of the Worlds
  • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
  • The Scarlet Letter
  • Sense and Sensibilty
  • The French Lieutenant's Woman
  • The Grapes of Wrath
  • Dr. Jekyll
  • The Alchemist
  • The Vampire Diaries
  • Prom Nights from Hell
  • Heart Shaped Box

I'm going to go make some hot chocolate now... so I'll sign off and leave you with my strange Book Rules:

  1. I can't lend my favourite books to ANYONE.
  2. Do not open the book further than 90 degrees.
  3. No folding the corner of the page to keep your place. Use a bookmark.
  4. No leaving the book open face down to hold the page O_o you'll damage the spine.
  5. Clean hands O_o

Buh Bye
